In August 2025, Charlie Vaughan captained the Ampleforth Rugby First XV on tour to South Africa. The team played three matches – and proudly came home with three wins. But the trip was about more than rugby. Along the way, they shared kit, rugby balls, and footballs with local children on behalf of the Trust.

Their first stop was the Fisantekraal Community Pre-school, just outside Durbanville. Here, they donated equipment for play and activities to support the children’s learning and wellbeing. The school not only educates grade R learners, but also provides a safe space after school where students can complete homework with the help of dedicated staff.

The team also met the local football club, donating balls, bibs, and other kit to support their training and games.

Next, the team visited Langa Township, where they donated kit to the local girls’ rugby team. Charlie shared the purpose of the Trust, and the players received the equipment with huge smiles and heartfelt thanks. He explained how the new resources would allow them to train at a higher standard – not only helping to develop their own skills, but also inspiring younger children in the community to get involved in sport.
